Precautions After
Breast Fat Grafting

  • Showering: You may shower starting the day after your stitches are removed.
  • Breast massage and pressure: Avoid massaging your breasts or touching them forcefully for three months after surgery.
  • Scar care: The incisions will be closed with stitches or Dermabond (medical skin adhesive). They will usually be mostly healed about one week after surgery. Apply the healing solution prescribed by the clinic according to the provided schedule to support healing and help minimize scar tissue formation.
  • Alcohol and smoking: Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least one month after surgery, as they can delay wound healing and cause inflammation. They may also cause blood vessels to narrow. Smoking, in particular, interferes with the survival of the transferred fat.
  • Exercise and dieting: Exercise that increases metabolism and dieting may reduce the survival rate of the transferred fat. Avoid dieting and exercise for three months to help the transferred fat establish itself.
  • Nipple and breast discomfort: You may experience aching or throbbing in your nipples and breasts after surgery. This will gradually resolve over time.
  • Drainage from the fat-harvesting sites: On the day of surgery and through the following day, a small amount of blood-tinged fluid may leak from the incisions where fat was removed. This is the harmless fluid administered during surgery to reduce bleeding, so you do not need to worry.
  • Bra: You may begin wearing an underwire bra two and a half months after surgery.
  • Breast support tape: The tape provides consistent pressure to help control bleeding and swelling. If it becomes very itchy, contact your patient coordinator. If it is comfortable, leave it in place until the clinic removes it during your treatment appointment.
  • Swelling: The degree of swelling may vary depending on the amount of fat injected. This is expected and is not a cause for concern.
  • Rest: Get plenty of rest on the day of surgery.
  • Nutrition: Do not reduce your food intake. Eat a balanced, nutrient-rich diet to support the survival of the transferred fat. Foods rich in carbohydrates, such as rice, bread, and noodles, are particularly encouraged.
  • Care of the fat-harvesting sites: About three weeks after surgery, the areas where fat was removed may develop firmness or lumps. From this point onward, applying warm compresses followed by massage to those areas may help.

Complications such as bleeding, infection, and inflammation may occur after surgery, and individual satisfaction with the results may vary. Please consult your doctor.
